The Handmaid's Tale season 6 has cast an Emmy-nominated star as a series regular, as development on the final season of the dystopian TV series continues. While the series has been on Hulu since 2017, The Handmaid's Tale season 6 will mark the end of the show, finishing the story of June Osborne and her journey in Gilead as a titular Handmaid. The final season is expected to film later this year, marking the end of the lengthy adaptation of Margaret Atwood's novel of the same name.
Now, Deadline reports that Emmy-nominated actor Josh Charles will be joining The Handmaid's Tale season 6, reuniting with Elisabeth Moss after the pair starred in the miniseries The Veil earlier this year. Charles is best known for playing Will Gardner on The Good Wife, for which he was nominated twice for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. While his character in the dystopian TV series is under wraps, he will be joining as a series regular.
How Will Josh Charles’ Character Impact The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6?
The Handmaid’s Tale season 5 ended with June and Serena reunited, seemingly done with their conflict from seasons past, potentially fleeing Gilead as a threat for good. However, even though the pair are bound for Toronto by the end, Canada has shown an increased support for the dystopian American country. This means the pair may have to fight off their old home's influence in their new home, trying to finally be free of their pasts. How they'll break away for sure, though, has yet to be revealed.

I'm Convinced These Two Characters Will Both Die In The Handmaid's Tale Season 6
In it's final outing, The Handmaid's Tale season 6 needs to wrap up June's story, but I can't imagine certain characters making it to the credits.
Although it's unclear who Charles' character is going to be, his status as a series regular means he might be someone June and Serena meet in Toronto. This could be someone who is trying to stop the Canadian government from being too influenced by Gilead, or a secret supporter who wants the world to be more like the post-war US. Either is possible, just as there's potential he has an entirely different role that can't be fully gleaned before the season comes out.
Another potential route for his character is that he sets up the story of The Testaments, Atwood's sequel novel which is also getting an adaptation. He could be the one to transition The Handmaid's Tale into its next chapter, potentially through however he interacts with June during the season. But, with so much mystery still surrounding his character, it seems like it will be quite some time before his role in the final episodes is fully revealed.
The Handmaid's Tale season 6 doesn't have a definitive release date yet.
