GENERAL SUMMARY: As a part of the communications team within Chicago Booth’s Office of Advancement, the Assistant Director, Content, Communications, supports Advancement Communications’ mission to activate, motivate, and inspire the department’s core audiences (alumni, donors, volunteers) to engage with and invest in Booth. This position plays a key role in leadership communications by: 1) producing and editing correspondence on behalf of the chief advancement officer, and 2) supporting the dean’s communications, which includes the daily management of correspondence requests from Advancement colleagues, and the weekly editing of the dean’s acknowledgments. The position also serves as the liaison to Chicago Booth Marketing and Communications for tactical inquiries related to alumni and donor stories. It supports event marketing content and collateral needs. The position also occasionally writes profiles and stories about alumni, donors, and volunteers. The Assistant Director closely collaborates with content and digital engagement team members, as well as with many partners from Advancement, Alumni Engagement, and Chicago Booth Marketing and Communications.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as the primary content point for all Advancement-driven event marketing content needs except Reconnect, Chicago Booth’s reunion program, and Management Conference; serves with those events in an occasional support role. This includes developing a broad range of messaging, content, and assets, and managing the production of invites and other electronic and print pieces, in partnership with designers and other external vendors.
- Supports leadership correspondence for chief advancement officer and the dean.
- Makes content updates across Booth Advancement website as needed.
- Collaborates with Booth Marketing on content and coordination for Chicago Booth Magazine and other alumni/donor stories.
- Practices a standard of communication that is uniform and consistent with the school’s branding and priorities.
- Orchestrates efficient and thorough processes to facilitate marketing and communications projects.
- Partners with colleagues to strategically execute on Advancement’s storytelling approach and ideation.
- Performs other related work as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- A minimum of three years of professional experience in a related job discipline required, experience working in higher education preferred.
- Experience with multiple communication mediums and methods required.
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required.
- Possess outstanding interpersonal, presentation, and communications skills, characterized by the ability to listen, speak, and write well, with a strong commitment to customer service required.
- Demonstrated skills in assessing quality of visual communications required.
- Possesses flexibility and adaptability to work with new programs in an emerging and changing environment required.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision; possess a self-motivated disposition; identify opportunities for improvement and recommend effective changes, all while achieving key objectives resulting in desired outcomes required.
- Excellent attention to detail, and editorial skills required.
- Ability to handle multiple detailed tasks/projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines with frequent interruptions required.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, as well as with students, faculty, and corporate contacts in a multitude of communication methods i.e., in person, email, phone required.
- Professional demeanor, including tact, discretion, and the ability to handle highly confidential information required.
